Character Introduction.

I feel bad - I realized I haven't given everyone a proper introduction of the people we are working with here at Kuwangisana. So here it goes.

This is David and Laura. They are employees of MTI (Medical Teams International) which is based out of Portland, Oregon, and are two of the most amazing people I have ever met. Laura is in her upper 50's and David in his upper 60's, and still both of them have such a zeal for relief and development work. David was born in South Africa, and has the coolest accent ever. I could go on and on about them, but it's just been so much fun to travel with them and be blessed enough to spend time in their presence.

This is Ryan (center obviously). He works for MTI, and words I would use to describe him would be gentle giant, soft hearted, and sacrificial. Ryan has been married for close to 4 years now, but has spent 18 of the last 23 or so months living on the compound here in Sena. He leaves his beautiful (so I'm told) wife back home in Portland for months at a time to come out here to help change the lives of these kids. Talk about a sacrifice. I am also told he was (before he had ACL surgery) a phenomenal soccer player, and
can still ball with the best of them while his knee heals.

Perpetua, with the pineapple on her head, is the Executive Director (I'm not sure if that is her actual job title - but the job description would be similar). She heads up the facility of Kuwangisana, and does an astounding job of it. I really could type on and on about what a visionary and activist she is - and how she has transformed this center (from a year ago apparently) is unbelievable. What she has done for the community of Sena is remarkable. A quick background on her - she fled Mozambique during the civil war as a teenager, and eventually ended up in Canada. After spending years there, she felt in her heart that the Lord wanted her back in her home country. So she came back to the rough lifestyle of the country here to help change lives, and now splits her time between Canada and here

Joseph, pictured here with their dog Simba (they picked him up as a pup off the street), is the senior Pastor here in town. He is Perpetua's husband, and is a great guy. Together him and his wife are a powerful force to be reckoned with. What he has done with the church community here in town is amazing, I can't remember exactly how many he built from scratch here, but it's a significant amount. My dad has been able to spend a good amount of time with Joseph, and has found it extremely rewarding.

These are the main people we've been spending time with, but there are so many more who make this place run like clockwork through the Glory of God.

  1. Great idea to introduce your "characters", thanks! And, by the way, you seem to have the hang of the blog thing!
